Spring Cleaning and Organizing Your Garage

1. Pull everything out of the garage and put it into three separate piles. One pile for the things you are keeping, one pile for things that can get thrown out, and one pile for the good will or a yard sale. You will want to purchase the big plastic storage totes with lids from a store such as Valu Home Centers. These storage totes are stackable, and have tight fitting lids to keep your stuff protected.

2. Now take everything out of your garage and place it into one of the three piles. Once everything has been removed and your garage is empty, you can begin spring-cleaning the walls, ceiling, and floor of the garage. If you have a leaf blower, you can blow the cobwebs off of the ceiling and walls with that. It's also much easier to use the leaf blower on the floor then sweeping is. However, a broom can go a long way. Once you have removed all of the dust, leaves, and other debris, you can get out a disinfectant such as Lysol and clean off all of the shelves and cabinets. You will also want to go over the walls as much as you can to remove the dust.

3. You will want to get a hose with a strong sprayer attached to it and spray the floor of your garage down real good. Then you can put a cleaner of your choice on the garage floor and scrub it with a stiff broom. Once the garage floor is scrubbed, take the hose and give it a good rinsing.

4. Now organize your belongings in the pile of stuff you are keeping into the plastic boxes and write a description on the box. Neatly stack them into your garage. Call a donation center to come pick up the pile that is for good will, or if you decided to have a yard sale, set it aside for the yard sale. Throw away everything in the throw away pile.
