Valu Home Centers Earn while you train
Valu Home Centers strongly believes that well-trained associates will yield both personal and company success. Valu has established a three-part training program for all hourly associates consisting of in-store Product Knowledge Training, Orientation and a Certified Training Program (CTP). CTP is a formal program certified and approved by the National Retail Hardware Association.
In Store Product Knowledge Training
Introduces the new associate to the wide range of products sold by Valu Home Centers. This training takes place during the first 90 days of employment and its completion is neccesary to qualify an associate for the product knowledge courses.
Orientation
4 1/2 hour meeting (includes lunch). A formal meeting for all new associates joining Valu. This meeting covers Quality Customer Service (QCS), security and other pertinent subjects, and includes a tour of the corporate office and distribution center. This meeting is not mandatory, however, you must first attend Orientation before being eligible to enroll in CTP.
Certified Training Program
(CTP) This program starts out with a course on Selling Skills and Customer relations. After completing and successfully passing the Selling Skills and Customer Relations Course, an associate is eligible to enroll in a variety of courses designed to provide in-depth training in Product Knowledge.
Selling Skills and Customer Relations: 3 hours. A moderator leads the group and utilizes video instructions. Successful completion of this course qualifies an associate for the Product Knowledge Courses.
Product Knowledge Courses: 4 hours each (split up in 2-hour segments over 2 weeks). There are a number of different Product Knowledge Courses which include topics such as Hand Tools, Electrical Supplies, Plumbing Supplies, Interior Painting, Decorating, Lawn and Gardening. A moderator leads the group and utilizes video instructions, workbook exercises, and a multiple choice test. Upon successfully completing the course and passing the course test, the associate will receive a $.25 per hour increase in pay. Associates may participate in a maximum of three product knowledge courses in any calendar year.
Paid Training: Associates are paid their normal hourly rate while participating in the above training sessions and are also paid for their travel time from the store to the training location.
Training Location:
All formal training is done at the Valu Corporate Meeting Room
located at the Valu Plaza, Clinton and Rossler Streets, Buffalo, NY or our Central New York training facility in Elmira, NY.
